QBARS - v30n3 National Photography Show Proposal

National Photography Show Proposal
Franklin H. West, M.D., Gladwyne, Pennsylvania

There are many photographers in the ARS who will welcome a forum to display their skills and compete for recognition of their efforts. Interest in the 1976 photography content of the Philadelphia Chapter was particularly keen, and the winner is displayed on the back cover of this issue.
If every Chapter were to hold a contest before May 1977, the individual winners would be eligible for entry in the first National Photography Show at the Eugene Convention in 1977.
Suggested contest categories are: I. Species rhododendrons; II. Rhododendron hybrids, lepidote; III. Rhododendron hybrids, elepidote; IV. Native azalea species; V. Hybrid deciduous azaleas; VI. Evergreen azaleas; VII. Azaleas and rhododendrons in the garden or landscape; VIII. Rhododendron people, activities and events.
Categories I to VI could have four subdivisions: a. Close-up of flower or truss - 1. 2x2 color slide, 2. black and white print 8x10; b. Whole plant - 3. 2x2 color slide, 4. black and white print 8x10.
Contest entrants will be asked to permit the Editor of the Quarterly and the Director of the Slide Library to select any entry for duplication and possible publication. The grand prize winner would be honored on the cover of the Quarterly!
Interested Chapter Program Chairmen should contact the Secretary of the ARS, or the proposer, F. H. West, Gladwyne, Pa.
