JARS v46n1 - Alert! Powdery Mildew

Alert! Powdery Mildew

Powdery mildew on rhododendrons is on the rise in the Northwest, Ken Gibson of Tofino, British Columbia reports. Out of 900 varieties he is growing, 60 to 70 percent have been affected, he says. Nurserymen down the Northwest coast have also reported an increase in the dreaded fungus, says Gibson.
The worst carriers of the disease are the hybrids 'Virginia Richards', 'Leverett Richards' and 'Mrs. Lamont Copeland', he says.
Gibson alerts rhododendron growers to the disease and to take steps as best they can to combat it.
