INTERNSHIP for HISTORY GRADUATE STUDENT
Special Collections at University Libraries, Virginia Tech, is looking for a graduate student interested in working with original manuscript materials. This individual will work with professional staff to gain experience conducting research with unique and rare documents, organizing (and preserving) collections, and creating online finding aids. There is a particular need for someone to work with unique and extraordinary collections that focus on the American Civil War and/or the Archives of the Norfolk and Western Railway. Other areas of interest may also be available. Additional activities, such as traditional and online exhibitions, of interest to the intern are also possible.
Along with gaining practical experience, interns will have access to a high level of technology that is one of the VT librarys hallmarks. There will be easy access to Internet workstations with copious software and opportunities for Web design. There may be also be opportunities for learning and applying the EAD (encoded archival description) and Dublin Core metadata.
