Text Responses (29 for this question) "A much elaborate Latex template would have made my job easier." "difficult to find information on ETD site (had to click through many pages to find formatting guidelines), could not find clear instructions of how/where to upload permissions documents." "Everything was pretty much guided either through website or through staff and faculty around." "Great website, only in that it is simple. It's rare that such an important process has such a simple and easy to use website. Please keep it that way." "I felt the site was constructed to guide the student in a straight forward manner." "I had a hard time figuring out what leads to the submission page, every time I opened the VT ETD homepage." "I kept hearing how difficult it was to submit an ETD, but so far so good! I guess I'll find out shortly if my submission goes through our not. The hardest part in preparing my dissertation for submission was figuring out how to create sections in my dissertation so that the page numbers were accurate." "I really like ETDs." "is ok" "Jodi Cromer in the Graduate School has been remarkably helpful in this process and has gone out of her way to make this submission (4 years removed from my defense) run smoothly." "No" "No comments" - ( 2 responses) "no further questions" "No." "None" - ( 2 responses) "Please update the information and links on the ETD website." "Some gaps in implementation knowledge on how to prepare ETD with LaTeX - properly creating PDF file, preparation problems, etc." "The availability options are different on the electronic portal and on the form so it is very confusing." "The ETD electronic system is very helpful" "The etd system has relatively poor usability and doesn't offer enough confirmation. I have no idea if my electronic submission was received, and that's concerning. The user interface needs a serious update. The university etd page is also lacking in usability. It took too many clicks and too much searching around to get a "how to" for submission. A step-by-step guide should be a prominent link on the "author" page. Finally, this survey appears to have some responses out of order. For example, "somewhat useful" would usually rank lower than "useful". This process generally failed to meet my expectations." "The ETD website has conflicting info in different places, specifically with video and audio being within the pdf or separate files and copyright info being in the appendix or a separate file. It was difficult to know what you wanted." "the pdf/a-1b information is a bit unclear, and if the red X comes up, rather than the green check, there is no trouble-shooting section" "The problem that I had was not with the site, it was with the graduate school. We were not given the correct site address. Additionally, the formatting requirements and changes that we were required to make just for the ETD were time-consuming and tedious, especially given the fact that I will have to change it back to the original format for publishing." "The website is well organized for information acquiring." "There is difficulty to use ETD system for Direct Ph.D students. There are system conflicts for this type of admission." "This survey was the most confusing part of the whole process." "Was an easy process."
