Introduction

This bibliography is a compilation of recent masters theses and doctoral dissertations completed in Technology Education, and related fields such as Industrial Arts, Industrial Technology, Industrial Vocational Education, and Trade & Industrial Education at institutions listed in the NAITTE/CTTE Directory. The initial bibliography was compiled for a research project (See Foster, 1992) funded by the Graduate Studies Committee of the Council on Technology Teacher Education (CTTE) from 1990 to 1992. Since that time several calls for papers have been published in the professional journals typically read by members of the field. With these additions, the bibliography now contains 573 references.

In addition to this bibliography, a national data base of abstracts for each study contained in the bibliography called the "Research Bank" will henceforth be maintained at the headquarters of the International Technology Education Association. In addition to the overall bibliography, copies of the abstracts of the masters theses will be available from ITEA on a cost-recovery basis. Copies of the abstracts for doctoral dissertations are available from any library that has the Dissertation Abstracts International (DAI) or from DAI directly. To prevent copyright infringement, the Research Bank will not provide copies of dissertation abstracts.

The primary motive behind creating and maintaining the bibliography and data base of graduate research is to help ensure the availability of this major source of research. Many of these studies are not published and are unavailable to future researchers. Consequently, plans are in place to update the Research Bank and bibliography annually.

To this end we encourage Technology Education graduate students (as well as those in closely related fields) who complete a masters thesis or doctoral dissertation to send a copy of the title page (please ensure that completion date and institution are included) and abstract to Dr. W. Tad Foster, Dept. of Technology Education, Central Connecticut State University, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT, 06050. It would also be helpful if department chairs and graduate advisors would remind graduate students to submit a copy.

In the future, we plan to explore the possibility of expanding the Research Bank to include all research being completed by researchers in the Technology Education field. Obviously, the field has access to published studies, but a great deal of relevant research is not published and subsequently lost. The Research Bank may help to prevent the loss of this data.

Note: Several references in the bibliography are incomplete as the information was not included on the title page of the study. If you can provide this information, please send it to Dr. Foster as soon as possible.
