THE LEDGER-STAR
SERVING SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA AND NORTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA
: Sunday, November 26, 1995
- CORRECTION/CLARIFICATION:

A front-page story last Sunday on the future of aircraft carriers
had an error about the carrier Hornet. The carrier in the photo, the
Hornet (CV-12), was indeed commissioned in 1943. However, the first
air raid on Japan, in April 1942, was made from a previous Hornet
(CV-8). That Hornet was commissioned in 1941 and lost at the Battle
of Santa Cruz in October 1942.
