ETTA W. THOMAS

Etta Crane Walton Thomas, 82, died Feb. 24, 1997.

Born in Danville, Va., March 11, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Martin F. and Eva Jones Crane and the widow of Carson L. Walton Sr. and Joseph C. Thomas Jr. Mrs. Thomas had lived in Virginia Beach for 44 years. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a founding member of the Congregational P.F.W.B. Church of Chesapeake and was active in its women's ministries.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Walton Barclift; her son, Carson L. Walton Jr. and a stepson, Joseph C. Thomas III and his wife, Linda; two sisters, Eula Lohman and Jean Garringer; three brothers, J. Curtis Crane, Gary D. Crane and Bobby R. Crane; a sister-in-law, Erma Crane; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nine nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Lillard and three brothers, Otis, Beverly and Homer Crane.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Ernest Trueblood. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
