A personal donation of $5,000 has launched a fund-raising drive by the Northeast Economic Development Partnership to supplement the organization's $1.2 million annual subsidy from the General Assembly.
Partnership Chairman Jimmy Dixon, an Elizabeth City businessman and Pasquotank County commissioner, handed over his $5,000 check last week to Treasurer Buck Suiter at the February meeting of the pump-priming panel in Hertford.
The partners have organized a ``Committee of 1,000'' to raise $1,000 from 1,000 individuals or businesses each year in the 16-county Albemarle area served by the group.
