Clarisse Machanguana and Ticha Penicheiro of Old Dominion were named finalists on Tuesday for the 1997 Boost-Naismith college basketball player of the year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced.
Georgia's La'Keshia Frett of Hampton and Tora Suber of Virginia are also a finalists for the women's award.
Tim Duncan of Wake Forest heads the nominees for the men's award. The winners will be announced on March 23.
Other women's nominees are Shalonda Enis, Alabama; Tracy Henderson, Georgia; Chamique Holdsclaw, Tennessee; Nykesha Sales, Connecticut; Kate Starbird, Stanford; Tina Thompson, Southern California; Marion Jones, North Carolina, and Kara Wolters, Connecticut.
In addition to Duncan, the finalists for the men's award are Chauncey Billups, Colorado; Danny Fortson, Cincinnati; Jerald Honeycutt, Tulane; Brevin Knight, Stanford; Raef LaFrentz, Kansas; Ron Mercer, Kentucky; Shea Seals, Tulsa; Maurice Taylor, Michigan; Keith Van Horn, Utah; Jacque Vaughn, Kansas; and DeJuan Wheat, Louisville.
