MAGGIE P. BENTON

Maggie Mae Powell Benton, 86, of Route 1, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

Mrs. Benton was born in Gates County. The daughter of the late Rufus H. and Mrs. Nannie Small Powell, she was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Christian Church. She was the wife of the late Lewis M. Benton.

Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Pronechen of San Francisco, Phyllis Whitehurst of Richmond, Va., Rita Stallings of Hobbsville, Barbara Lis of Greenville; a son, Bruce W. Benton of Corapeake; a brother, Leslie Powell of Hampton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy P. Benton.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Oak Grove Christian Church by the Rev. Sallye Hardy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Rita Stallings, Route 1, Hobbsville. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
