Carver C. Joyner, 70, of the 4200 block of Stonebridge Landing, died Feb. 26, 1997.
He was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Smithfield, N.C. He remained there until he graduated from Johnson County High School. He started his formal education at Hampton Institute where he graduated with a B.S. degree in chemistry. Carver was united in marriage to Olivia Creekmur on the great lawn at the Watts family home in Hodges Ferry. He had four children, Carver Jr., Denise, Michael and Wendell Joyner.
In 1951, he moved to New Jersey where he was employed by Schering Plough Co. for 32 years. He started as a chemist for the company. While employed at Schering he attended Seton Hall University law school, and upon his graduation became a patent attorney for Schering. He was a member of the American Bar Association.
Carver was a member of First Baptist Church, Cranford, N.J., for 30 years. In 1981 he retired, and Carver, his wife and youngest son moved to Chesapeake.
He is survived by his wife, Olivia Joyner; two of his four children, Denise Joyner West of Westfield, N.J., and her husband, Al, and Wendell Joyner of Chesapeake, and his wife, Melonie; four grandchildren, Tasha Joyner, Michelle Joyner, Justin West and Candace Moody; a great-granddaughter, Tatianna Joyner; a sister, Mary Smith of Newark, N.J., and her husband, Edward; a niece, Ann Vaughan of Plainfield, N.J., and her husband, Bill; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in Fisher Funeral Home. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
