PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY TRUCK IN NORFOLK

A 36-year-old man who was crossing Shore Drive Thursday night died after he was hit by a truck, police said.

William B. Weis was crossing Shore Drive in the 8100 block near East Ocean View about 10 p.m. when he was hit by a northbound truck driven by Charles S. Slagal, police said. Weis, of the 8100 block of Shore Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Slagal, stationed aboard the amphibious assault ship Guam, left the scene of the accident, then returned.

Slagal, 30, was arrested after an investigation. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol. KEYWORDS: ACCIDENT TRAFFIC ACCIDENT PEDESTRIAN FATALITY
