MELVIN H. GUTHRIE

Melvin Hudgins Guthrie, 82, of the 1500 block of Art Court died Feb. 27, 1997.

A native of North Carolina, he was a son of the late Samuel I. and May Hudgins Guthrie and the widower of Frances P. Guthrie. Mr. Guthrie was a retired carrier for the Virginian-Pilot.

Survivors include his daughters, Phyllis G. Boone of Suffolk, Barbara G. Swanner of St. Louis; sister, Frances Wiley of Providence, N.C.; two brothers, Henry Guthrie of Danville, William Guthrie of Providence; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2p.m. today in the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Chapel by the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins Jr. and the Rev. Lindsey Poteat. Entombment will be in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends at 1523 Art Court.
