WILLIAM F. FAHEY

Retired U.S. Navy Capt. William Francis Fahey, 62, of the 4600 block of Berrywood Road, died Thursday Feb. 27, 1997, in his residence.

Born in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 8, 1934, Captain Fahey grew up in New York City. He was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and sailed on merchant ships during the Korean War. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as intelligence officer in Nha Trang. His 30 years of Naval service include command at sea, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, distinguished graduation from the Naval War College, founding the first Navy Family Service Center, Washington, D.C., and command of the Organizational Effectiveness Center, Atlantic.

Capt. Fahey married the former Constance Quamme of Portsmouth. He is survived by his wife, Constance; two daughters, Jean Anderson and her husband, Robert of Davidsonville, Md., Colleen Fahey of Tallahassee, Fla.; his mother, Emily Glynn Fahey of Dublin, Ireland; his brother, Daniel H. Fahey of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons, Taylor and Brian Anderson of Davidsonville, Md.; a niece, Jennifer Fahey of Norfolk; a nephew, Jeffrey Fahey of Chesapeake.

Capt. Fahey was a board member of the American Society of Training and Development and a member of the Catholic Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach. He was president of Leadership Consulting Associates and was a professor on the faculty of Old Dominion University.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and teacher.

A Christian Funeral Liturgy will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday by the Rev. James E. Parke and the Rev. Marguerite Kenney in the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. The family will receive friends until 8 p.m. following the service. Contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Hampton Roads, 4855 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462.
