Thomas Benjamin Lewis Jr., 75, of the 5200 block of Johnson Ave., the son of the late Goldie Lasseter Lewis, was taken home to be with the Lord on Feb. 27, 1997.
A native of Portsmouth, Mr. Lewis retired from St. Julien's Creek Fire Department. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. Mr. Lewis was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, America Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 148, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest No. 143 and the Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cora Estelle Lewis; his daughter, Coral Ann Pino and husband, Lee; his sons, Howard W. Drew Jr. and wife, Mary, and Norman Ray Drew and wife, Irene; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral with Masonic Rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum by the Rev. Lynn Hardaway. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.
