EDWARD J. MCDOWELL

Edward Justine McDowell, 85, of the 1000 block of Justis St., died Feb. 28, 1997.

He was a native of Atlanta and a longtime resident of Portsmouth, he was the widower of Marie Teresa Badilla McDowell. He was employed at U.S. Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, and retired in 1977 from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash. He was the son of the late Carrie B. McDowell.

Survivors include a daughter, Iris M. Mott of Chesapeake; a son, Larry Leon McDowell of Challis, Idaho; a sister, Lucille Mench of Portsmouth; three brothers, Walter McDowell, Lawrence McDowell and Ray McDowell, all of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Riverside Memorial Park by the Rev. Roger Mardis. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today in Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
