George Bernard Mahoney, 78, of Vail Place, died March 1, 1997.
Mr. Mahoney, a native of Richmond, was the son of the late Aubrey V. Mahoney and Mary E. Seay Mahoney. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a boilermaker after 20 years of service. Before coming to Portsmouth he was employed by the Johns-Mansfield Co. in Jarratt, Va. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, was a World War II Navy veteran, and was the widower of Edna Harrup Mahoney.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy C. Hayden and her husband Ed Hayden of Suffolk; a son, George D. ``Dickie'' Mahoney and his wife Anita of Mechanicsville, Va.; four grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and a sister, Mary E. Mahoney of Richmond.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Angels Catholic Church by the Rev. James E. Gordon. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. His remains will be placed in church Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral Mass. A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth.
