Helen Mitchell Long, 76, died March 3, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.

A retired bookkeeper for Meekins Pontiac, she was an Ahoskie, N.C., native, a Baptist and a member of Woodstock Bible Study at Avalon Church of Christ. She was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph R. Long; daughter, Lynne E. Monette and her husband, Willie W. Monette of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Allen J. Monette and his wife, Karen, of Virginia Beach, Gary R. Jones and his wife, Monica, of Virginia Beach and Michelle Monette of Mandeville, La., Michael Monette and his wife, Erin, of Fairfax, Va.; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by Pastor James Bennett. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, Va. 22314 or to the Alzheimer's Association - Hampton Roads Chapter, 20 Koger Executive Center, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
