Dorothy Louise Quick Phillips, 92, a resident of Portsmouth since 1987, died peacefully on March 4, 1997.
She was born Nov. 18, 1904, in Elyria, Ohio, to the late Louis and Georgia Bryant Quick and lived in Dover, Ohio, before moving to Alliance, Ohio, in 1950. Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Western Reserve University with a bachelor of Science and bachelor of library science degrees. She was a high school librarian in Cleveland Public Schools for 10 years.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church, former member of the Hively Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, American Association of University Women, Naada Book Club, Alliance Woman's Club, Pink Lady for Alliance Community Hospital and Gray Lady for the American Red Cross.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Gupta and her husband Mahesh of Portsmouth; son, Owen Bryant Phillips and wife Linda of Lake Wylie, S.C.; three grandchildren, Anita Gupta, Darren Phillips and Dena Reynolds; and two great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Rebecca Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Phillips; a sister, Marjorie Rosenberry; and niece, Marilyn Sue Rosenberry.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Donald Seely and the Rev. Celeste Heath at Centenary United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Va., on Sunday, March 9, 1997, at 3 p.m. The family will receive guests in the church library following the service. A cremation was held and interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Alliance, Ohio. Arrangements by Foster Funeral Home.
