This seal was thought to be in distress when it was spotted on the
beach at Kill Devil Hills Wednesday morning. Before passers-by could
approach to offer help, the creature bounded for the surf and swam
away to the north. Frank Hudgins of the North Carolina Aquarium says
seals occasionally come ashore and are not necessarily in distress.
They should be left alone, he said.
