The Roanoke Island Historical Association, producer of The Lost Colony, has selected Dennis Madden to serve as general manager of the outdoor drama, effective March 17.
Madden comes to The Lost Colony from Salem, Ore., and brings nearly 20 years of theater and nonprofit management experience to the post.
``We are anticipating a new era of continued growth with Dennis' help,'' said Roanoke Island Historical Association Chairman Thomas L. White, Jr. ``His broad background in all aspects of theater and nonprofit work will bring us boldly into the 21st century.''
Madden has served as executive director of The Elsinore Theatre in Salem, The Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., The Tivoli and Community Auditorium in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady, N.Y.
He has worked as a consultant for several East Coast theaters, and lectured on theater management and programming at colleges and universities across the country.
He has also served as mayor of the Village of Scotia, N.Y. He holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Syracuse University.
Madden replaces Jonathan E. Summerton, who left The Lost Colony last November. The drama, about the disappearance of settlers on the island in 1587, celebrates its 60th anniversary season in 1997.
