George Erick ``Preacher'' Ricks of the 600 block of 20th St. died March 7, 1997, in a local hospital.
Mr. Ricks was the owner and president of G.E. Ricks Co. Inc., and was the former president of the Masters Plumbers Assocation in Norfolk prior to starting his business in Virginia Beach in 1947. Mr. Ricks was a charter member of the Virginia Beach Community Chapel. He was instrumental in getting the charter boat docks at Rudee Inlet. He owned the Red Fin Charter Boats at Hatteras, N.C., and Rudee Inlet. Mr. Ricks was an avid fisherman and in later years his greatest love was deer hunting. He was a member of Shiloah Hunting Club in Southampton County.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth P. Ricks; son, John Patrick Ricks Sr. and his wife, Betty Ann Ricks; daughter, Linda Ricks Helms; granddaughter, Tiffany Rose Ricks; grandson, John Patrick Ricks Jr. and his wife, Karen Ricks; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Lee Ricks and Patrick Dalton Ricks; sister, Evy Ricks Dejoseph and her husband, Al Dejoseph.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, 1997, in Rosewood Memorial Park by Pastor Larry Shoaf. Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
