UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN FOUND DEAD UNDER OVERPASS

Highway workers discovered the body of a woman under an interstate overpass Saturday morning, and state police are trying to learn her identity.

The woman's body was found just after 11 a.m. under the Poindexter Street overpass of Interstate 464 northbound.

The woman had no identification. She appeared to be middle-aged, perhaps in her late 40s, and was described as ``petite'' and very thin, with brown hair. She was found with several bags made of various materials, which appear to contain personal belongings.

The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's office in Norfolk for an examination to determine the cause of death. In the meantime, police said the case is being handled as a ``suspicious death.''

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the case in cooperation with Chesapeake police.

Anyone with information about her identity is asked to call the police at 424-6800.
