1972

At Norfolk International Terminals, the passenger liner Queen Elizabeth 2 disembarked more than 1,000 passengers who had completed a 12-day cruise to the Caribbean.

A Navy F-4 Phantom jet crashed three miles west of Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, killing both crewmen but missing a residential area.

1947

National Air Lines began regularly scheduled service between Norfolk and Newark, N.J. The multimotored, DC-4 airplane made the trip in an hour and 14 minutes.

The Lochhaven trolley derailed while making the loop from Granby Street to Monticello Avenue.

1897

Norfolk Police Department purchased Rambler bicyles for beat policemen to ride in rapid pursuit of criminals.

Morris chairs with cushions were being advertised for sale at $5 and $5.75.
