NEW PRODUCTS HELP PUT AN END TO BAD-HAIR DAYS

Frizz control

``Bad hair days'' have their roots in the humidity factor. When the air is damp, hair expands, then shrinks as it dries, giving a wrinkled or frizzy look.

Women may actually be able to wear smoother do's this spring. Clairol's Frizz Control offers six products that can be used individually in daily hair care.

Products range from $4.49 to $7.69 and are widely available.

Candy girls

Remember the wooden platform slides of the early '80s?

They're back and kicking up more than dust. Candie's will emerge as one the most fashionable slide-shoe forms yet for spring.

The company is upscaling its line with a designer collection created by Nicole Miller, Anna Sui, Betsy Johnson and Vivienne Tam.

``Retailers kept asking us to bring them back,'' says Neil Cole, CEO of Candie's. ``We're excited because the shoe can fill a void by offering a fun, sexy and retro product at the same time to different age groups.''

Classic Candie's run approximately $40, with Designer Candie's ranging from $75 to $150.

In the Mode

In the mood for a new magazine? ``Mode'' should appeal to the 65 million women who wear size 12 and above, and who are tired of seeing too-skinny models in clothes that aren't realistic for their size and lifestyle.

Created by the former Publishers of Esquire and Mirabella, Mode leaves behind the runway extremes and depicts models plus-sized women can relate to.

``Right now is the right time for Mode,'' says Julie Lewit-Nirenberg, one of its founders.

``Retailers and designers report that women size 14 and up are the strongest growth segment of the fashion category. Mode redefines what a fashion magazine is at a time when women want accurate information that fits their lives and clothes that fit their bodies.''
