NEWS AND NOTES

Mr. Coffee recall

About 50,000 filter holders and filter baskets for Mr. Coffee espresso/cappuccino makers have been recalled because they can dislodge under pressure, causing the glass carafe to break.

The manufacturer, Health o meter Inc., has received 43 reports of the filter holders dislodging, which have resulted in at least three injuries - either cuts or burns.

Only model ECM9 Mr. Coffee espresso/cappuccino makers are affected by the recall. The model number is imprinted on the bottom of the machine's base. The model sold for about $40 in retail stores nationwide from September 1996 through February 1997.

Consumers should stop using these models immediately and contact Mr. Coffee at 1-888-999-3934. They will be sent free replacement filter holders, filter baskets, revised instruction manuals and coupons for Mr. Coffee filters.
