ROBERT E. HICKS

Robert ``Bob'' E. Hicks, 72, died March 12, 1997.

He was a member of Union Baptist Church, charter member of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department, a founding member of the Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad and a member of the Abingdon Ruritan Club.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Tal Hicks.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edna H. Hicks; a daughter, Betty Jane Belch of Achilles; a son, William Ellis Hicks and his wife, Peggy of Achilles; a sister, Betty Christler of Marysville, Mich.; a brother, Leon Hicks of Gloucester; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Union Baptist Church, Achilles, by the Rev. Dr. Dave Holladay, the Rev. Dave Pouchot and Frank Feagan. The family will receive friends in Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
