LITERARY NOTES

Temple West and Lorraine Eaton will read some of their creative non-fiction on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Prince Books, 109 E. Main St., Norfolk. The reading is part of Old Dominion University's MFA Reading Series. Call 622-9223 for information.

Richard Marcinko will sign copies of his new novel, Rogue Warrior: Destination Gold on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bargain Books-Wards Corner, 7524 Granby St., Norfolk; and on Saturday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Bargain Books-Giant Square, 717 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach.

Lenore Hart, of the Eastern Shore, and Nan Byrne, of Virginia Beach, have received ROADS Publishers' Poet's Choice Awards for poems published in Straightway Dangerous, volume 13 of ROADS' annual The Poet's Domain. Hart's ``McKean County, Pennsylvania'' earned first place; and Byrne's ``Crown Heights'' received third. Recognized with honorable mention were Lynn Dean Hunter, of Virginia Beach, for her poem, ``e-mail to Whitman''; Mary K. Parlin, of Norfolk, for ``Broken Buzzsaw''; Barbara Smith, of Newport News, for ``Memories of Loss''; and Byrne for ``a madonna.''
