MARVIN S. THOMAS

Marvin Simpson Thomas, 84, of the 200 block of 51st St. died March 16, 1997.

Mr. Thomas was a native of Spartanburg, S.C. He was a U.S. Navy lieutenant commander during World War II. He was a graduate of Furman University. Mr. Thomas was a store manager with J.C. Penney for 42 years in Daytona Beach, Fla., Knoxville, Tenn., and Norfolk. He retired in 1972 and then went on to become a retail consultant in South Africa from 1972 to 1977. He also consulted with Smith and Welton form 1977 until 1983. Mr. Thomas was a member of Galilee Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach, a member of the Rotary International and the Princess Anne Country Club.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his son, Stewart Marvin Thomas, and a granddaughter, Catherine Stone Flippen.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Stewart Thomas; daughter, Barbara Thomas Flippen of Atlanta; two sons, Stephen E. Thomas of Atlanta, Roger B. Thomas of Detroit; two grandchildren, Stewart Garland Flippen of Richmond and Leighton Kittridge Thomas of Lake City, Mich.

A memorial service will be conducted at Galilee Episcopal Church Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Calvin G. Gardner. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
