CARL J. HIPPS

Carl J. Hipps, 70, died March 18, 1997, in a local hospital.

Born in Glen Alpine, N.C., he was retired from civil service and was also a retired Navy veteran with 23 years service. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, senior Men's Sunday School class and the Happy Hour Class.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. Hipps; a son, William M. Skipper of Oxford, Ala.; two sisters, Ruby Hartsoe of Glen Alpine, Jell Lewis of Virginia; a brother, Glen Hipps of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Robert Michael Skipper and Tonya Jean Skipper, both of Oxford, Ala.; half-sister, Sandy Beach of Morganton, N.C. and a half-brother, Wayne Hipps of Glen Alpine.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. William E. Amon. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
