During Portsmouth Public Schools' annual All-City Elementary Music

Festival, held Saturday night at Churchland High School, teacher

Diane Tsioutsias talks with students in the kindergarten through

second-grade chorus. Ray Lowther, music supervisor for the school

system, said that about 1,200 people attended the event, which

included performances by about 800 students. During the program's

opening number, 30 students from all three of the city's high

schools joined younger students in singing ``America the

Beautiful.'' The event was a local celebration of Music In Our

Schools Month, which is observed throughout the United States during

March. The theme for Saturday night's event was ``Music: It's Worth

It.''
