SWAP YOUR TOBACCO PROMOTIONAL GEAR

GOT A Joe Camel T-shirt you want to unload? What about that Newport cap? You can exchange your tobacco-related promotional gear for TASK gear Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Coliseum Mall, Entrance C, in Hampton.

TASK, or Teens Against Silent Killers, is a group of teen-agers dedicated to spreading an anti-smoking message. The TASK teens will swap T-shirts, backpacks, shorts, pens, hats, etc. For more information, call 838-2330.

Hand, not foot, dexterity

The very dexterity that allows teens to write and type well does not provide as much skill on the dance floor. Asked to rate a variety of personal skills in a Gallup Youth Survey taken in January, teens were quick to give themselves high marks in handwriting and just as quick to laugh at themselves when it comes to dancing.

Of 507 teens, 21 percent believe they have excellent handwriting skills, and 40 percent more say their handwriting is quite good.

However, just 28 percent of those surveyed think they are good dancers, while 26 percent think their dancing is downright embarrassing. - from Gallup Youth Survey MEMO: Sareit Hess, a senior at Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach,
