ELIZABETH F. JESSE

Elizabeth F. Jesse, 90, of the 300 block of W. Brambleton Ave. died Feb. 4, 1997, in her home.

She was administrative librarian at the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, for 12 years until her retirement in 1973. A native of Versailles, Ky., she held a B.A. from Transylvania University, Lexington, Ky., and a certificate of library science from the University of Kentucky.

She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1943 and worked in Washington in the OSS Library, leaving active duty as a captain in 1946 to become a librarian with the National War College. After two years there, she served as a librarian in the Central Intelligence Agency, moving in 1955 to National Security Agency. In 1958 she became reference librarian at Norfolk Public Library and three years later was recruited to head the library at the Staff College.

She was an enthusiastic traveler, visiting dozens of countries in lengthy stays, and to celebrate her retirement, she went around the world. She was a swimmer, gourmet cook, accomplished knitter and opera buff.

She is survived by her brother, Louis R. Jesse of Winter Park, Colo.; five nieces and a nephew.
