BERNARD P. ODOM

Bernard Pierce ``Bernie'' Odom, 82, of Deep Creek Blvd. died March 20, 1997, in his home.

A native of Macon, Ga., he was predeceased by his wives, Florence M. Odom and Margaret Sweeney Odom. Mr. Odom was a shipfitter at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retiring after 36 years. He proudly served as a chief in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary A. Murphy and husband, Kenneth, of Suffolk; son, Thomas P. Odom Sr. and wife, Claudia, of Chesapeake; sister, Betty Martin of Macon; five grandchildren, Thomas Odom Jr., Stephen Hathaway, Mark Odom, Michael Murphy and Michelle Simmons; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Mary Murphy, 204 King of France Court, Suffolk, Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
