William Clyde Irving, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of the 300 block of Warrick Road, died Tuesday March 25, 1997, in a Chesapeake hospital.
Mr. Irving was born in New Bern, N.C., and was the son of the late James Clyde and Nina Irving. He was a retired dock master with 40 years of service with Colonna Shipyard. After his retirement he remained active and was the backbone of Irving Landscaping. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Midgette Irving; his daughter, Susie Sawyer of Norfolk; his son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Beverley Irving of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, William Michael Irving, John E. Irving, Debbie A. Stevens, Courtney Sawyer; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron Irving, Seth Irving and Madison Irving.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, by the Rev. Thomas L. Mercer. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home and at other times at 349 Warrick Road. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
