LENA R. ASKEW

Lena R. Askew, 70, of the 2600 block of Moton St., died March 24, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

Born in Ahoskie, N.C., she was the widow of Robert L. Askew. She was a member of New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth, and a member of Trusteettes Board and the Willing Pulpeteers Club.

Survivors include eight daughters, Arlene Elliott, Doris Christian, Elsie Thompson, Robin Taylor, Sheila Askew, Valerie Davis, Hattie Williams, Patricia Askew, all of Portsmouth; two sons, Wallace Askew, Gregory Askew, both of Portsmouth; three sisters, Ruby Godwin, Betty Miller, both of Philadelpia, Henrietta Faison of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, John Faison of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth, by Dr. T.M. Steele. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake.
