Florene Sophia Smith, 81, died March 29, 1997, in Chesapeake.
Born in Chatteroy, W.Va., she was a private-duty nurse and a nurse at DePaul Hospital and Virginia Beach General Hospital. A Methodist and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she was the widow of Frank A. Smith.
Survivors include a daughter, Doe Smith of Alexandria, Va.; three sons, Bud Smith of Winterhaven, Fla., Frank A. Smith II and Tim H. Smith of Chesapeake; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a dedicated longtime companion, Tom Gaidowski of Norfolk. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sun Penfield.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Williamson Cemetery, Williamson. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Foundation. Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
