MATTIE L. MADREY

Mattie Lee Lane Madrey, 95, of Route 2, died Saturday, March 29, 1997, in her home.

Mrs. Madrey was born in Perquimans County. The daughter of the late John B. and Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Jordan Lane, she was a seamstress and had received much recognition for her outstanding needlework. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and the wife of the late Alvah H. Madrey.

Surviving are two daughters, Hazel Madrey Jackson of Hertford and Reba Madrey Sigmon of Portsmouth; a son, Bill Madrey and his wife, Shirley, of Portsmouth; a sister, Johnnie Elizabeth Salmon of Suffolk; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; three nieces, four nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Hewitt. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge of arrangements. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday in Mt.
