Anne Goffigon Downes, 79, died Friday March 28, 1997, in Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital.

Born in Capeville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Hyla Hunt Goffigon. She was a retired deputy treasurer of Northampton County Treasurer's Office and member of Holmes Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, E.C. ``Sambo'' Downes Jr.; and a sister, Mary G. Belote of Cape Charles, Va.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Capeville Masonic Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Anthony W. Dick Jr. Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home, Cape Charles, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Cancer Chemotherapy Unit and Information Center of N.A.M.
