VERA G. BURNETT

Vera Godwin Burnett, 80, of the 600 block of Kingsborough Square, died April 1, 1997, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Burnett was born in Elm City, N.C. She was a longtime resident of Portsmouth and most recently of Virginia Beach. She was an active member of London Bridge Baptist Church. She was retired from Goldmans Shoe Salon.

Survivors include a son, John R. Godwin of Charlottesville; two daughters, Bobby Joyce Layden and her husband, Howard A., and Darlene Parker and her husband, Robert, both of Chesapeake; a sister, Fannie Pearl McCarley of Chevy Chase, Md.; six grandchildren, Melodie Duck, Traci Spring, Johanna Walker, Mark Parker, Kimberley Godwin; and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Tommy Taylor. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. The family will be at the Duck residence, 3910 Balboa Crescent, Chesapeake.
