Ladies: Get out your checkbooks.
This week, you'll get a chance to bid on some of the beach's hottest bachelors when they go on the auction block to benefit a student scholarship fund.
The second annual Dare County Jaycees' Charity Bachelor Auction will be held Saturday, April 12 at the Comfort Inn South.
Single women age 21 and older will be able to bid on a variety of dates designed by the bachelors. The men's task is to plan outings that reflect their personality and interests. Twenty-three bachelors between the ages of 21 and 54 will be offering their time, money and attention.
The bachelors represent a cross section of professions: lawyer, fitness trainer, firefighter, policeman and business owner.
``We have a real variety of bachelors,'' says auction co-chair Lynn Chinnapi. ``They're all so different.''
Some of the romantic outings available include horseback riding in Buxton, taking a sunset air tour of the Outer Banks, scuba diving in the Atlantic, sailing in the sound and attending a concert in Virginia Beach.
``It's not just your dinner and movie thing,'' Chinappi says.
Proceeds from the auction fund a scholarship program for Dare County students who are academically gifted. Last year's event raised $4,260.
Returning for a second turn as auctioneer is WVOD-99.1 midday announcer Shelley Mills. She will take bids on these beach bachelors: Jay Johnson, Daniel Hughes, Jim Wills, Steve Pauls, Chip Sylton, Buster Nunemaker, John Vandermyde, Frank Petulla, John Bodo, Jeremy Boyce, Paul Lustig, John Xenakis, Jay Tomlin, Dan Atkinson, Kino Chavez, John Towler, Charlie Cole, Todd Kretzschmar, Herb Hale, Harry Fentress, David Karosi, Don Hutson and Kent Godwin.
