Helen Hicks Couther, formerly of Grayson St., died April 5, 1997.

A native of Norfolk, she was a retired self-employed beautician. She was a member of New Central Baptist Church, Norfolk, and Ruby Westwood Missionary Society and senior choir.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ruth Hicks Holmes of Virginia Beach; a brother, Mr. Lankford M. Hicks of Bowie, Md.; two special nieces, Dr. Muriel H. Chasten of Chesapeake, Mrs. Joycelyn Hicks Johnson of Norfolk; two special nephews, Dr. Bert Holmes Jr. of Virginia Beach, Mr. Harvey S. Hicks of Richmond; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in New Central Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. James Messick. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at 2910 Beechmont Ave., Norfolk. Chatman Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
