CHARLES R. WELCH SR.

Charles Ralph Welch Sr., 55, of the 3000 block of Brittany Way, died April 5, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.

The widower of Elizabeth Lee Welch, he was a member of Churchland Baptist Church and D.A.V. Chapter (NU)41. He was a native of Bedford, Va., retired from the U.S. Air Force and a veteran of Vietnam.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Camille Welch of Portsmouth; two sons, Charles R. Welch Jr. of Hopewell, John W. Welch of Chesapeake; three sisters, Mozell Crenshaw of Victoria, Jane Bales, Willie Welch, both of Bedford; four brothers, James Welch and Ray Welch, both of Bedford, Roy Welch of Tennessee and Al Welch of North Carolina.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Churchland Baptist Church by Dr. R. Clint Hopkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland.
