PROM SHOULDN'T BE SO EXPENSIVE

IT'S APRIL and the prom is just a month away. Many students are trying to find dates or come up with the perfect prom attire. On the other hand, there are students who can't even think about a date because prom finances are a first priority.

Many students choose to work to pay for prom. Others depend on parents. But what about the students who choose not to work? What about the students whose parents can't help out?

Shouldn't they be able to celebrate, too?

``For those students who can't afford it, I think there should be some kind of assistance available,'' said Alicia Smith, a senior at Norview High School in Norfolk.

I agree.

The prom should be a happy and rewarding time for students, not a panicked time for scraping together finances.

It should be a prom for all, not solely for those who can pay the high price.
