ELIZABETH F. BELTON

Elizabeth Fletcher Belton, 91, a former resident of Chesapeake, died of a stroke at Millsboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Millsboro, Del., on April 8, 1997.

A retired elementary school teacher, she was raised in Big Stone Gap, Va. Mrs. Belton attended Radford College after her graduation from Big Stone Gap High School. She was an elementary teacher in the Wise County, Va., school system. In the early 1940s she moved with her family to South Norfolk. She attended the Norfolk Division of William and Mary College in the 1950s and resumed her teaching career as a special education teacher in the Norfolk school system. She was known for her compassion and devotion to the needs of her students. She was a member of South Norfolk Baptist Church, Chesapeake.

Her husband, Bernard O. Belton, and two sons, James C. Belton and Michael W. Belton, are deceased.

Mrs. Belton is survived by a daughter, Lena B. Caron; a son, B. Edward Belton; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in South Norfolk Baptist Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Frank Hughes. Family received friends Thursday at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
