POETS TO OPEN BOARDWALK FEST

REAL LIVE POETS, the originators of the poetry slam, will be the opening act for this year's Boardwalk Art Show and Festival, set for June 11-15 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

The Poets will perform at 8 p.m. June 11 at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, sponsors for the festival. The core event is the 42nd annual Boardwalk Art Show: from June 12 to 15, more than 350 artists will be set up from 17th to 30th streets.

The festival has been sharply pared from last year's 10-day event. Only four performing arts programs are scheduled, and all are free except Real Live Poets.

Remaining acts will perform outdoors at 8 p.m. at the 24th Street stage: June 12, contemporary dance duo Pilobolus Too; June 14, guitarist Leo Kottke; and June 15, Turtle Island String Quartet. Call 425-0000.
