WAYNE E. BOWMAN

Wayne Eno Bowman, 82, of the 400 block of Painter St. died April 11, 1997.

A retired associate professor at Old Dominion University, he was a New York native and the widower of Mary Anna Brooks Bowman, a longtime member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church and the choir.

He was a graduate of Kempsville High School and received his education from Elon College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After teaching in North Carolina and Georgia, he taught for 25 years at Old Dominion University, retiring in 1980 with the rank of associate professor emeritus of English. Mr. Bowman served four years during World War II and commanded a Naval vessel in the Pacific theatre.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Evelyn Kuserk of Harleysville, Pa., and Rita H. Pickler of Midlothian, Va.; three sons, Wayne E. Bowman of Alexandria, Gary V. Bowman of Washington, N.C., and Patrick D. Bowman of Ruther Glen, Va.; sister, Lois B. Schaffer of Port Charlotte, Fla.; brother, Quentin M. Bowman of Virginia Beach; 13 grandchildren; and his companion, Linda Matthews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 1997, in Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church by Dr. John R. Monroe. A private interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the ODU Faculty Emeritus Endowment Fund or to the Charles E. Vogan Sr. Music Fund of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
