MARGARET P. SHEWMAKE

Margaret Payne Shewmake, 80, a former resident of 81st St., died April 12, 1997, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Shewmake was a native of Norfolk and a Presbyterian. She was the widow of the late Oscar Shewmake and William Edward Vaughan. She attended Maury High School. Mrs. Shewmake was a member of the Tuckahoe Women's Club and the Cavalier Garden Club. She also was a volunteer at Virginia Beach General Hospital and Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters' thrift store.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy V. Dunnington of Virginia Beach and Joan V. Chappell of Savannah, Ga.; five grandchildren, Kerry L. Chappell, Scott V. Chappell, Stacey O. Chappell, Elizabeth V. Dunnington, Sara C. Dunnington; and a great-grandchild, Logan B. Chappell.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Cemetery in Newport News, by Dr. J. Scottie Griffin. The family will receive friends after the burial at the home of her daughter Peggy Dunnington, 706 Crystal Lane, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or a charity of choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
