Eddie C. Butler Sr. of the 5600 block of Gregory St., died April 11, 1997, in his residence.
Mr. Butler was born in Portsmouth and was retired from the Army. He was a member of the American Veterans Club Post 190. He sang with The Golden Trumpets of Portsmouth.
Survivors include his wife, Veratine Butler; a daughter, Leatrice Butler of Portsmouth; a son, Eddie C. Butler Jr. of Portsmouth; two stepsons, Andre Davis of Philadelphia and Antwan Davis of Portsmouth; his mother, Dossie L. Davis, and stepfather, Thomas A. Davis, of Roanoke Rapids; a brother, Harry Hubbard of California; an uncle, Clarence Butler of Ahoskie; seven grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Reginald A. Early. Burial will be in Quantico National Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 6 to 7 p.m. today in Serenity Funeral Home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. for the procession to the church.
