Bertha Mitchell, 88, a resident of Sentara Nursing Center, 249 S. Newtown Road, died Sunday, April 13, 1997.
She was born June 6, 1908, in Highmore, S.D. She was the widow of Bruce Towner Mitchell and was preceded in death by two daughters, five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Mitchell and her husband operated a ranch near Miller, S.D., for 30 years before moving to Pinellas Park, Fla., after retirement. She was an active member of Pinellas Park Community Methodist Church and a longtime resident of Crystal Lake in Pinellas Park, where she was active in many social functions. She moved to Norfolk in January of 1992.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Shirley Mitchell of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Lt. Eric Mitchell and wife Dana of Kingsville, Texas, Karen Lokensgard and husband Richard of Minneapolis, Minn., and Gregory Mitchell and wife Denise of Falls Church, Va.; a sister, Agnes Hahn of Highmore, S.D.; a great-grandchild, Matthew Mitchell of Kingsville; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Carbaugh will be held in Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Indian Hill Road and Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be sent to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Box 5217, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455-0217 and/or Sentara Village, 251 Newtown Road, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
